この章では排便のことをお話しますので、あまり読みたくない方は読まないでください。
直腸の手術の後、排便障害で下痢になる人と便秘になる人がいるようなのですが、私の場合後者の方でした。手術後便秘薬が少しの間処方されましたが、その後は自分で市販の薬でコントロールするようにとのことでした。今考えれば腸のことを考えて、しばらくの間は下剤を続けるべきだったのだと思います。でもその時は、便秘薬は癖になったら困るので、出来るだけ早く自分の力で排便できるようにと思っていました。その結果下剤を使わない場合は便秘になり、下剤の種類によっても効かない場合があり、ありとあらゆる便秘薬を試し、針にも行きました。しかしながら、便秘はどんどんひどくなり、便がでない状態が数日続いたため受診し、手術から１ヶ月たったので、注腸の検査をするように言われました。検査の結果私の直腸接続部は女の人の薬指くらいしかないことがわかりました。手術をしてもらった先生は術後後遺症の話のときに、やたら接続部がうまくつながらずそこから便がお腹の中にもれてしまう話をしていたので、そういう経験がもしかしたらあって、そういうことがないようにきつくつなげてしまったのではと今では思います。 先生にどういうことか聞いてみたところ、接続部が縮んだ経験は自分にはないとのことでした。でも私がネットで調べたところによるとそういうこともあるようでした。結局もう少したたないと傷口が開く恐れがあるので、何もできないとただ帰されてしまいました。その後保険が効く別の先生に会いに行きましたが、その先生からは手術前に超音波の検査をしてもらった病院に行くように言われました。なぜならそこが唯一ロサンゼルスでその治療ができるところだったからです。その週末には浣腸もきかなくなり、排便もしばらくなかったので、保険がきかないものの治療ができる病院へ行きました。

There are people who have Diarrhea and there are those who have constipation after rectal surgery. I became constipated. I was prescribed medicine for my constipation after surgery. When that ran out, I had to use over the counter medicine for it. When I think about my intestines, I should have probably continued taking an OTC laxative a little longer but I didn’t want it to become a habit. I wanted to defecate under my own power as soon as possible. I was in a bit of trouble. There were laxatives that didn’t work at all and there were some that worked way too much. I also tried acupuncture. My constipation became worse and worse. I couldn’t defecate for several days so I went to a new Doctor. My new doctor did an examination of the intestine by barium enema. She found that my rectum junction was too narrow, only the width of a woman’s ring finger. The new doctor told me that the doctor that did the surgery did not connect my rectum back properly and stool could be leaking into my lower abdomen. The rectum had been sewn back together too tightly. I don’t believe my surgical doctor had much experience because he stated that there is no such thing as the rectum being too tight. My surgical doctor had sent me home doing nothing fearing the surgical area may tear open. I did my own research and found that this most certainly could happen. After that I told the insurance that I needed a new doctor. I couldn’t see my new doctor I had chosen because it wouldn’t be covered under my insurance. However, I could go to the emergency room where I had my pre surgery ultrasound examination done and be seen by the doctor I requested. This was because it was the only place in Los Angeles where this examination could be done. My enema didn’t work that next weekend. I ended up going to the emergency room. I could now be treated by my new doctor.
